Testimonial Statements
from our Program Participants

The things I really liked about the program is how they held meetings wherever was most convenient and comfortable. When you have 2 children that is an asset. I liked the required personal support team, because I felt less alone and learned I can turn to them at any time.

- Amy, WrapAround Program Participant

My son and I looked forward to not only spending time together, but to improving our physical fitness. We look forward to the next round of this program and we hope to encourage the rest of our family to join in as well.

I am a single parent of 3 children. I found this summer particularly stressful because my middle child, Justin, is at an older age now where he is too old for daycare but not old enough to be home by himself. I heard about The Adventure Camp through a friend and thought that this might be a solution to my problem. When I went to the staff of the Adventure Camp I was very pleased to find that The United Way was supporting the camp with funding and because of this support I would be able to send my child to summer camp.

I feel Baby Steps program is extremely beneficial to moms in the area because of the access to pertinent parenting information and resources we never knew we all should have. The program, to me, is much more than expert speakers coming in to discuss topics. It's a chance to learn from other moms and to share experiences so you know you're not the only one dealing with certain things.

- Jaime Lee, Baby Steps Program Participant

I wanted to thank the United Way of PEI for supporting the WrapAround Program. I am grateful for the program; it has changed my life for the better.

- Amy, WrapAround Program Participant

I believe that the financial support that we receive from the United Way created opportunities for positive impacts that have long lasting effects. All the participants of the After School program will carry these experiences with them for life.

As often happens, when children grow into the junior high years it takes more effort to find common interests. The Family Exercise program was excellent on two levels: it gave my son and I time together away from distractions like video games, television and housework to help grow a positive relationship, as well the added benefit of physical activity.

I went to the food bank where I saw the WrapAround brochure. I called the number when I got home and explained my situation and what I wanted. They were non-judgmental and instead of looking down on me like I expected, they understood and wanted to help and see me succeed.

- Amy, WrapAround Program Participant

I love Baby Steps and my children really look forward to going too. Because there's no "family resource centre" per se in this area, I sincerely hope Baby Steps enjoys a good long life in St. Peters.

I have met new people and I enjoy each event that I am able to attend. I feared that financially I would have limited social interactions, but through the Social Seniors Program I now have a wonderful social calendar.

- Betty, Social Seniors Program Participant

I am a 22-year old single mother of two wonderful boys. Before I contacted United Way's WrapAround program, I was overwhelmed with basic life situations, stressed about finances, and felt alone with little self esteem.

- Amy, WrapAround Program Participant

Since starting the program I have learned from having a support team that I do not have to do everything on my own and can depend on others as well as myself. I have self esteem and like who I am, knowing I can do what I put my mind to. I have learned budgeting and communication skills. I have created boundaries in my life and have better relationships with my children.

Being a mother of two young children and having recently moved back to King's County, the timing of the Baby Steps program was ideal for me. I work from home, which can be quite isolating, so Monday evenings I know I have a great reason to get out the house and it's that much easier because I can bring my children with me and they get to play with other kids while I learn and have some adult time.

About 3 years ago I lost my home due to a house fire. It also claimed the life of my husband. I now live with my daughter due to financial constraints. Social outings are not part of my monthly budget. When I was made aware of the Social Seniors Program, I was thrilled. I could not believe that I could go on a bus tour to Summerside and see a fantastic show or attend a beautiful dinner party for free.

- Betty, Social Seniors Program Participant

On our final day of this year, we had a bowling party at Murphy's Community Centre in Charlottetown. We presented the participants with certificates and rewards for attending the program. On receipt of her certificate, a participant named Samantha became very emotional and started to cry. She was concerned about not being able to come as a participant next year. Samantha is now very excited to come back to the program next year as a volunteer!

I just want you to know I had a great experience at Adventure Camp. I really like doing the ropes course and I made a lot of friends. The food was great, the people were nice and the counselors were extra nice especially Jessie! I would recommend this camp to anyone looking for friends and a great time!

- Justin, R.O.P.E.S. Adventure Group Participant

I had peace of mind knowing that my son was at a camp where he was in a safe environment and I could tell that he was learning a lot and having fun at the same time. He was so proud of his accomplishments and now that I have seen what he is capable of, I am more comfortable with allowing him to take on challenging activities.
