DONOR PRIVACY POLICY

United Way of Prince Edward Island is committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the confidentiality of your personal information. This policy is binding on all personal information provided to the United Way of Prince Edward Island.
Personal information may be provided to us through correspondence, online donations, pledge forms, conference or meeting registrations, or other forms of communication. Such information may be collected for the purpose of processing and receipting a donation, recognizing a contribution, registering your participation in a meeting or other event, or responding to your information requests.

The information you or your employer provide to us is used to help us:

  1. in our campaign;
  2. process and receipt your donation;
  3. respond to any of your information requests.
If you are a donor to United Way of Prince Edward Island, whether to our workplace campaign, (either online or via paper pledge form), by direct mail, special events or including but not limited to, unsolicited gifts, your information is not shared with or sold to any other organization. We take every step to ensure the confidentiality of your information is maintained. Designations – If a portion of your gift is directed to another United Way or another charity, we only provide the amount of your donation; we do not provide your name or address.

We do not provide donor information to any third parties, except for the following:

  1. When authorized by a donor to do so;
  2. Sharing information is necessary to process a donation, for example to process a credit card transaction;
  3. As required by law – United Way of Prince Edward Island may release personal information when it is reasonably necessary to comply with the law;
  4. When necessary, services are provided by third party suppliers – In order to maintain cost effectiveness and continue to provide a high level of donor service, some third parties (such as computer or mailing houses) do some data processing of computer files on our behalf. These companies enter into strict confidentiality agreements and pursuant to those agreements, do not keep any donor information on file.
United Way of Prince Edward Island website – On our website, (www.peiunitedway.com), we collect only the domain name (e.g., Sympatico, Hotmail, etc.) not the email address to the site. Our site uses cookies in a limited way. Cookies are small files containing information that a Web site uses to track a visit. Both persistent and session cookies are used to track flow through the site in order to improve service to visitors; they do not remain on your computer at the end of your visit, and cannot be used to obtain any personally identifiable details.

You can set your browser to notify you before you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it. You can also set your browser to turn off cookies. If you do so, however, some areas of our site and others may not function properly.
